Abstract
Coal is one of the fossil fuels with vast reserves in nature and one of its main applications occurs in the generation of energy in thermoelectric plants. However, the burning of the combustion releases polluting gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect. One of the techniques that arises is the oxy-combustion technique, which reduces the emission of polluting gases through the insertion of pure oxygen as oxidant. This article is evaluated by means of numerical simulations of the oxy-combustion processes of Brazilian pulverized mineral coal CE 4500. For numerical simulation, a 100 kW vertical drop tube furnace model was used at the University of Aachen in Germany, using ANSYS CFX® software. For the input parameters of the CE 4500 coal, a thermal input calculation was performed to obtain the mass flow and the inlet flow of the O2/CO2 gas mixture, to obtain the same energy generated by Rhenish coal in the described process. Using models of turbulence, combustion, chemical kinetics and radiation, the results of axial velocity and temperature were obtained for five vertical distances in the furnace, in order to model the oxi-combustion process in numerical simulation results of the Brazilian coal CE 5200 and German coal Rhenish.
