CFD SIMULATION FOR THE VIV FORCE IN A CIRCULAR CYLINDER OSCILLATING PERPENDICULAR TO THE CURRENT

Abstract
An oscillating circular cylinder perpendicular to the current is accounted, and two-dimensional numerical simulations through the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are taken. Hydrodynamics drag and lift forces on the cylinder are investigated. Commercial software was used and results are verified in terms of the drag and lift force coefficients with those in the literature to verify the computational model developed for simulations. Numerical simulations results are verified with experiments and discussions are focused on the overset grid approach which has been applied on CFD simulations. Good agreement was verified for hydrodynamic force coefficients calculated for the transversally oscillating cylinder to the incident current.
