Abstract
This work deals with a set of numerical simulations using hybrid equations for predicting the flow dynamicsand the heat transfer properties of a turbulent impinging jet, nozzle-to-plate spacing, circular nozzle, and radial positionalong the impingement plate. The Shear-Stress Transport(SST) κ−ω is employed to model the turbulent behavior ofthe flow and heat transfer. The effects of nozzle-to-plate spacing on the flow and heat transfer have been investigated. Tocompare with the numerical results, the experimental data set of Guerraet al.(2005) is used to describe the full meantemperature and velocity profiles for the wall jet region. It is observed that the flow may present high turbulent intensityfrom the free jet to the wall region, depending only on the nozzle-to-plate spacing. Decreasing the distance between theplate and the nozzle may reduce the mean velocity values.
