Abstract
The vibration of landing gear due to the interaction between the tire and road called shimmy is a topic of research due to the problems that it causes during the aircraft ground operation. The presence of nonlinear forces in the contact patch leads to marginally stable oscillations with deterministic amplitudes and frequency. The eigenvalue method of the quasi-linear system with the describing functions quasi-linearization is utilized to calculate the amplitude and frequency of limit cycle oscillations as function of a project parameter.
