ANALYSIS OF SUPPRESSION OF LONGITUDINAL VIBRATIONS IN RODS WITH MATERIAL PERIODICITY

Abstract
In this study, the propagation of longitudinal waves over a rod with a periodicity of material is evaluated. Modeling is performed based on the state vector and the mathematical description of the transmission model of waves, as well as, the effect on the stop band formation by the velocity of the propagation was also evaluated. The numerical analysis allowed to evaluate the effects of geometric and mechanical properties on the formation of stop bands and the level of attenuation. The results allow to discuss the influence of the material parameters of the structure on the transmissioncoefficientandonthebandwidth,inadditionallowestablishingadirectlyproportionalrelationshipbetween the stop band formation, propagation velocity and cell length. From the main parameters of material periodic structures, the present study describes the band gap behavior for different periodic configurations, thus being a useful tool in the design of periodic structures.
