Abstract
Transverse jet flow impinging in an annular flow is commonly found in gas injection wells with intelligent completion. In order to allow zonal selectivity in multiple injection intervals, the tubing is equipped with slide-sleeve valves that control the gas flow into the annulus where hydraulic or electric control lines as well as sensors and other intelligent completion components are installed. Flow induced vibration has been known to cause early failure of intelligent completion components. In the present work, the turbulent flow field in a simplified configuration of the problem is numerically solved using OpenFOAM extended version and allowing to understand the influence of different geometric parameters. The turbulent flow was modeled with the κ-ε model. Comparison with available experimental data has shown reasonable agreement.
