Abstract
Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) waves are the main mechanism on the laminar-to-turbulent boundary-layer transition. Its experimental demonstration was achieved with the advent of low-turbulence level wind-tunnels. A first attempt to characterize artificially-generated TS waves was successfully performed in the new Low Acoustic Noise and Turbulence Level wind-tunnel at USP-EESC in order to demonstrated its ability on performing quality boundary-layer stability experiments. Although the perturbations utilized were non-linear and three-dimensional, it was possible to characterize the TS wave eigenfunction and growth-rate.
