Abstract
This works presents the main guidelines for the numerical modeling of the airgap of a totally enclosed electric motor with a radial electromagnetic flux. All the simulations were done with the commercial software Ansys CFX®. At this work, the first step taken was to evaluate different kinds of models and also different mesh sizes with a simplified geometry. With the definition of the model and the mesh size, a simulation of the interior of a motor as realized, and with the results of this simulation some assumptions were made and based on these assumptions a more realistic simulation of the airgap was conducted. The results show that, it is possible to simulate the heat transfer on the internal surface of the airgap with a simplified model, however, the heat transfer on the external surface with the simplified model was underestimated, due to the structures that aren’t captured with the simplified model
