Abstract
In this paper is proposed to study the two-phase water-air flow in a Rocking-flow Cell through the Computational Fluid Dynamics using the open source software OpenFoam® 6.0. The objective is to obtain data that are not possible or that are impracticable in experiments to compare and relate the cell with flows in pipes, thus serving as a feasible model of numerical study of slug flow. This study is important in the oil industry to understand and predict the flow behavior in the extraction and production lines. In this scenario CFD represents a robust tool that can generate knowledge to face the most diverse problems involving multiphase flow. Some results previously obtained presented stratified and slug flow patterns. The intermittent pattern found generated data such as velocity field and profile that qualitatively showed to be similar to slug flow. In addition, more analysis will be done involving other parameters such as liquid hold-up, turbulent terms and so on.
