Abstract
In the last decades, worldwide emissions standards are getting stricter with intense international obligations related to the reduction of pollutant emissions. For this reason, it is needed more efficient engines with lower emissions of pollutants and the strategy with spray-guided injection fueling with ethanol-gasoline blends on lean-burn operation conditions could correspond for this objective. In this work, it was used spray-guided injection in optically accessible spark ignition engine fueled with ethanol-gasoline blends with the air-fuel ratio from stoichiometry to 1.4. The duration of injection was fixed and the test conditions were set at 900 rpm and variable open throttle to reach the air-fuel ratio values. The experiment has a prominent aspect on the lean-burn operation with spray-guided, showing a decrease of 80% on CO concentration, but needs a deeper investigation of this decay; it suggests that the fuel puddle on the intake valves could be their reason, as shown in the optical investigations.
