Abstract
The flow over a cantilever (surface mounted) finite-heigh semi-circular cylinder with aspect ratio AR = 2 was studied by means of experimental and numerical tools. The experiments were carried out in a low-speed wind tunnel through measurements of drag-coefficient, local pressure distribution in the downstream-face of the cylinder, vortex shedding frequency and wake’s velocity profile. All gathered results were used to validate a numerical approach by means of steady RANS with k-Omega SST turbulence model and unsteady simulations by applying the URANS (Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Simulations) technique. Both experimental and numerical data allowed the characterization of the flow over the geometry shedding light to important aspects such as aerodynamic force and wake flow pattern.
