Abstract
Vibrations related to structures, mechanisms and machine parts can cause loss of efficiency and even failure. For this reason, with the increase of the use of these equipment’s associated to the advances of the electronics, the necessity of a more efficient control of the generated vibrations generated. In recent years, the use of intelligent materials and structures for this purpose has grown significantly and can be applied over a wide range of operation. This work aims to reduce the vibration amplitudes of a crimped-free steel beam, using piezoelectric transducers glued on its surface, associated to a negative capacitance shunt circuit with series electrical resistance, in an experimental way, comparing its frequencies natural and vibrational modes with the numerical model. The methodology used consisted in the study of the behavior of a cantilever beam when excited by an impact type force. The effects caused by the piezoelectric glued on its surface when the circuit is activated and not activated were analyzed in order to verify if there was a reduction in the amplitudes of response of the beam for the first two natural frequencies. A reduction in amplitudes of approximately 18.7 dB was obtained for the first natural frequency and 18.6 dB for the second natural frequency, respectively.
