Abstract
This study has been carried out in the test section of closed circuit wind tunnel at Federal University of Minas Gerais and a numerical simulation Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes based Computational Fluid Dynamics method has been evaluated for three-dimensional turbulent flows around bluff body likes Ahmed Body squareback. Also, the pressure effects of a rear-spoiler attached at the rear end of the model was investigated. The CFD results was validated of Ahmed model scaled 1:2,5 with- and without spoiler in different pitch angles to the profile of experimental data had a good agreement predicts in numerical simulation. The spoiler has a beneficial influence at negative inclination angle below -5° the minimum value was checked at -15° implicate 2,3% for drag reduction comparing at base model. Above these angles, the aerodynamic drag increases with pitch angle. The mechanism of how the spoiler influences the aerodynamic drag was identified through the pressure plots for each setup, where its modifies the near wake structure and increases the pressure profile on the base and keep stable, allowing reduction the drag force and drag coefficient. The goal of reducing the aerodynamic drag of bus is a worthy one, because it is economically and socially valuable.
