Abstract
The measurement uncertainty estimation in experimental characterization of the wavenumber of structural beams, using a global method of sensitivity analysis, is presented. The importance of correctly quantifying measurement uncertainties is critical to ensuring the reliability of results. However, due to the complexity of the wavenumber characterization method, which involves different stages, spectral analysis and identification procedures, the classic GUM Framework is not appropriate to estimate the measurement uncertainty. Alternatively, it is proposed to use the FAST method to determine the sensitivity coefficients and from them the expanded uncertainty associated with the number of waves.This methodology is described and compared to the classic GUM procedure. The results are also presented for two case studies: a polyamide beam with resonators and a steel beam.
