Abstract
The focus of the present study is to analyze the motion of a planar single drop in a natural convection flow inside a closed bidimensional enclosure, using a numerical approach. The investigation was established for different values of Rayleigh Number and distinct initial positions of the droplet’s center of gravity, in order to analyze the droplet path traced since the begging of the simulation until the system reaches a stationary regime. The Navier-Stokes and Energy equations are solved for the laminar flow regime using finite differences in a projection method algorithm, associated to the Level Set methodology to describe the multiphase flow. Different trajectories of the droplet into the cavity are studied as a function of the Rayleigh number and the droplet’s initial position. It was observed that, depending on those parameters, the drop can follow closed paths, near the walls or near the center of the cavity, or describe a helical opened trajectory towards the cavity center.
