REYNOLDS-AVERAGED NAVIER-STOKES MODELLING OF TURBULENT LEAN PREMIXED COMBUSTOR

Abstract
Lean premixed swirling flames are found in many engineering systens, such as gas turbines and jet engines. This work aims to describe and categorize different flame topologies found in lean premixed, turbulent, swirling flames. Using Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations, coupled with premixed combustion models for different methane/air mixtures, stable regimes are analysed in a confined combustion chamber. The flow field in characterized here in terms of velocity fields, as well as turbulence properties. Combustion parameters comparisons are also performed, using previously obtained experimental results.
