In Brazil, the ethanol is utilized as the primary fuel in flex fuel vehicles and mixed with gasoline also, until 27\% in volume allowed by regulatory agencies of the fuels. The world production each year increase, Brazil is the second biggest producer, after the USA. Due to high productivity, there is a large generation of the residues, some examples: the sugar cane bagasse and vinasse. The vinasse is considered the big environment passive in the sugar and alcohol industry because it contains a lot of organic matter besides nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur. The vinasse is utilized as fertilizer actually but is a massive polluter and pollutant emitter. However, there is a potential the biogas production. The biogas production obtained from the vinasse brings advantages economics and environmental; for being a renewable energy source. Aiming to contribute to the advancement of researches and projects of the use of the vinasse this article shows the general review the productions and properties of the vinasse and biogas, in the Brazilian scenario.
