Abstract
This paper aims to evaluate the effects of the lubricant feeding conditions on the static and dynamic characteristics of journal bearings. For this, a mass-conserving cavitation model is applied in order to predict the hydrodynamic bearing performance for several oil inlet parameters, such as groove location and geometry, number of grooves and feeding pressure. Based on the results obtained by numerical simulations, the oil supply conditions affect the bearing flow rate and load capacity. As contribution of this paper, the results allow to recognize when oil inlet parameters are relevant to the bearing design and provide quantitative values to guide bearing projects.
