Abstract
In industrial sectors, pipping are used to flow fluids from an upstream point until another downstream point. In fact, copper tubing is a pipping material that is mainly used for domestic applications such as plumbing systems as well as heat exchanging. In terms of mechanical failure, piping can be subjected to vibration that often can exceed and lead into its failure as well as components connected to the piping system. Thus, to detect those typical faults and defects it can be done with either vibration or noise analysis. Furthermore, signal processing is a sub-field of engineering that concerns the analysis, synthesis and modification of signals. For example, Fourier Transform converts a signal from time domain into the frequency domain. Hence, mechanical systems under a frequency domain can have its dynamic properties studied with modal analysis. In fact, those tests are done when mechanical systems are excited with vibration testing devices. Therefore, a copper tubing is excited by a piezoelectric actuator whereas a piezoelectric sensor is used in order to acquire temporal vibration signals using a data acquisition system developed using the platform LabVIEW. This paper aims to assess the natural frequencies of a copper tubing with modal analysis as a diagnostic tool from vibration signals acquired.
