Abstract
Turbochargers have been widely used since restrictions on the emissions of greenhouse gasses were established. Even though these devices are an excellent strategy to reduce engine's CO2 emission, once the exhaust gases energy that would therefore be wasted is used to compress the air fed into the combustion chamber, it is observed that they severely increase the noise generated by turbocharged engine, what negatively contributes to ambient noise pollution levels. Since work relating noise pollution problem and cardiovascular diseases has been carried out, the study of turbocharger's acoustic radiation turns out to be important. In this paper, an experimental test to determine turbocharger compressor acoustic noise is developed. The acoustic data is then processing using beamforming decomposition. In results, a cubic interpolation method is presented to associate mass flow rate and compression ratio with the compressor sound intensity level, estimated relying on a beamformer method named Linearly Constrained Minimum Variance. Once acoustic maps of turbocharger compressor are generated, acoustic features are discussed.
