Abstract
This work addresses the design and simulation of a Kalman Filter for attitude determination in a CubeSat using the Simulink platform. The CubeSat is the concept proposed for the SERPENS II mission of the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB). The attitude instrumentation is: 3 solar sensors, 3 axes magnetometer and 3 axes gyroscope. The vector measurements of the magnetometer and solar sensor are combined with the method TRIAD to give one attitude measurement. The gyroscope propagates the attitude, via the integration of quaternion kinematics. These two attitude results are, then, fused via the Kalman filter. The attitude is referenced to the local vertical local horizontal (LVLH) reference frame. Simulation results indicate that the approach can give reasonable results for a given amount of simulated noise.
