Fatigue Limit Determination of a Low Carbon Steel Using the Thermographic Technique

Abstract
Traditional methods to obtain the fatigue limit of materials are expensive and time consuming, requiring a considerable number of specimens and a long time to be completed. In this work, the thermographic technique is applied to determine the fatigue limit of a low carbon steel, using an infrared camera. The traditional staircase method is also used as reference to check thermography performance. The results show that thermography technique is really faster than staircase to determine the fatigue limit of this material.
