Abstract
The study of Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) problems encompasses a number of process and physical variables. Among these variables, permeability tensor plays a key role for resin advance prediction inside the mold cavity. In this work, influence of the non-orthogonal components of the permeability tensor to the flow front advance is investigated. It is performed a comparison between numerical and analytic solutions for a 2D radial injection. The study is divided in three steps: i) injection is performed assuming Kxx larger than Kyy which are aligned with the Cartesian (x and y) coordinate system, ii) permeability tensor coordinates are rotated by 45º, and iii) computational domain and permeability tensor coordinates are rotated by 45º. Preliminary results have shown that proposed numerical methodology is capable of correct prediction of resin flow advance in non-orthotropic reinforced mediums.
