Abstract
Free surface modelling is usually responsible for high computational costs. It is commonly modelled as a biphasic fluid flow with surface tension between the two fluids. For many oceanic engineering applications such as tidal current turbines, a realistic free surface model is mandatory in order to acchieve accurated results from torque and thrust generated. Can be proven analytically that bouyancy effects could be neglected if a elastic surface is applied on the free surface. For modelling this in CFX, an anisotropic elastic body is modelled and coupled with fluid in order to compare the results with standard free surface model.
