Abstract
This work deals with an innovative and technological manner in order to develop a new tool steel specifically designed to the manufacture of screws and barrels for plastics processing. The new grade presents greater microstructural homogeneity than the traditional steel DIN 1.8550 widely used in this application. Searching for a grade with superior dimensional stability when compared to DIN 1.8550 steel is also part of this work aiming to reduce distortion on plasticizing components while being manufactured with machining operations.
