Attitude Control of a Pendulum using Two Reaction Wheels

Abstract
The attitude control using reaction wheels as actuators has been one of the most popular ways to stabilize and to reject external disturbances in aerospace devices. From the controlled change of the angular momentum rate using the reaction wheels, it is possible to control the oscillation and direction rate of change on rigid bodies. This paper is going to show the modeling of a two reaction wheels pendulum and its linear and nonlinear control. The present paper presents a two reaction wheel pendulum been controlled in two different situations: in the inverted position and with tracking control. A comparison between PID controller with some adaptations and a sliding mode control is also performed.
