Mathematic Modelling of a Shape Memory Alloy Actuator

Abstract
Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) are capable of converting thermal energy into mechanical energy and once deformed the material can return to its original shape by heating. The formulation of phenomenological constitutive models to describe SMAs is not a well stablished topic, due to the high complexity of the thermomechanical characteristics of SMAs. Several models were created in attempt to solve this problem, but in this work, two constitutive models of SMAs are presented and numerically simulated in order to analyse the effect caused by mechanic stress over martensitic fractions during phase transformations related to the conversion from martensite to austenite and vice-versa.
