Abstract
Crude oil is a complex mixture of hydrocarbons consisting of paraffins, aromatics, naphthenes, asphaltenes and resins. At low temperatures, the solubility of high molecular weight components in the oil decreases and mainly the n-paraffins tend to precipitate as crystal structures. Many efforts have been made by researchers to determine the highest thermodynamic solid-liquid equilibrium temperature of waxy oils. This temperature is evaluated by means of thermodynamic models or experimental methods. In the majority of the works the metastable zone presented not only on the crystallization but also on the dissolution of crystals has been neglected. In the current work it is proposed a procedure to determine consistently the highest solid-liquid thermodynamic equilibrium temperature of waxy oils by using the results of rheometer and DSC experiments.
