Abstract
Sound propagation in moving media can be solved using a boundary integral formulation to the limit of weakly non-uniform potential flows. For low Mach numbers, an approximate analytical Green's function can be found as a combination of the physical models associated with the Taylor and Lorentz transforms. A boundary element method can then be used to solve scattering of sound by solid surfaces in a mean flow. These solutions, however, deteriorate with increasing Mach number and frequency. In this work, we compute a numerical Green's function to assess the error of the approximate analytical Green's function. It is shown that the numerical Green's provides only minor improvements to the solutions based on the analytical Green's function. It is concluded that the analytical Green's function is a good approximation of the exact one.
