Abstract
The construction technique known as Green Roof is a sustainable solution for buildings, consisting in the application of substrate and vegetation in an airtight extension on the constructions surface. This study explores the impact of Green Roofs on building thermo-energy performance using the building energy simulation program EnergyPlus and compares the consumption of electricity from a conventional roof and a green roof. The results showed that Green Roofs with thicker and denser soil is a good option to reduce energy consumption due to air conditioning. The ideal scenario proposed achieved a 21% reduction in total energy consumption in air conditioning.
