Abstract
The objective of this work is to evaluate the offshore hydrogen production by steam methane reforming method, from an energetic and environmental point of view, considering carbon capture by chemical absorption and supersonic separation. An integrated system involving the processes of H2 production, seawater desalinization, carbon capture and CO2 compression was developed and simulated using Aspen Plus software, whose results were verified using data from the literature. From the mass and energy balances, it was possible to quantify the thermal and electrical demands of the processes that is supplied by a simplified utility plant. The integrated system indicates a CO2 capture rate of 66% by chemical absorption and 80% by supersonic separation. It was also verified that the supersonic separation adoption presents higher exergetic and energetic efficiencies and, consequently, a lower factor of CO2 emission. In addition to reducing the energy consumption and CO2 emission, supersonic separation has the advantage of occupying less space, favoring its installation on offshore platforms.
