Abstract
As microfluidics began to emerge as a revolutionary field, new manufacturing approaches became needed for the fabrication of advanced microchannel devices. Nevertheless, depending on the micro-fabrication employed, the resulting geometry may present variations from the designed one, due to fabrication issues. In this context, an investigation is carried out to determine the two-dimensional velocity profile for fully developed laminar flow in nominally rectangular microchannel, considering three different cross-section imperfections: inclined walls, rounded corners and a slightly curved surface. A hybrid numerical-analytical solution is employed based on the Generalized Integral Transform Technique to solve the problem in the considered irregular geometry and the effects of each imperfection on the velocity profile is examined.
