Abstract
In countries with large territorial extension, the transport of production is always a crucial factor in the competitiveness of enterprises or even in their maintenance. Transfer to export raw material can be done in several ways, including a low cost solution and minor losses along the path, is processed into slurry, which may be of mineral or vegetable origin, where the particulate solids are mixed with water and can then be transported along pipes for hydraulic pumps. An open-source software was utilized to dermine the pressure loss over a tubing, where it circulates a non-newtonian fluid. This test was made to distint volumetric concentrations of solids, observing also a behave differently between. The Herschel-Bulkley model represents this phenomenon that is a mixing between solid and fluid, indicating a behavior next to plastic of Bingham. For validating, the data was compared to experiment performed by SOUZA PINTO (2014), and the results allowed to calculate loss of pressure localized in different concentrations of solids. Furthermore, this simulation showed where there are high concentrations and deposit of solid particles, and the necessity to increase the flow to prevent these problems. The opposite is possible too, for determining where the velocity of flow is bigger than the necessary, decreasing costs of transport of solid particles in slurry pumps.
