Abstract
The search for more efficient processes, in order to save resources and avoid further environmental damages, is mandatory in current society. The power and efficiency augmentation of already existing power plants plays important role during the technology transition for more efficient cycles. This work presents a thermal arrangement proposal, that can be applied to already existing Rankine cycles power plants, aiming power and efficiency improvements. This thermal arrangement is composed of an absorption chiller and chilled water storage tank designed to make use of the energy remaining in boiler exhausted gases. Although large quantities of water are required for condensation, the thermal accumulation allows the use of chilled water generated by absorption chiller during the period of 24 hours to be used in the condenser during peak hours to increase power output and the efficiency of the plant. The thermodynamic performance of this system is compared with the performance provided by an Organic Rankine Cycle that makes use of boiler exhausting gases to increase power generation.
