Abstract
In this paper is presented a comparative study of four different detailed kinetics models involving the main chemical species responsible for the process of nucleation, surface growth and soot oxidation, i.e., the molecular oxygen, the hydroxyl, the acetylene, the propargyl, the benzene and the pyrene. To this purpose is considered a perfectly stirred reactor model (PSR), which burns ethylene/air mixtures for equivalence ratio between 0.6 and 4 and different residence times from equilibrium to extinction. The PSR model is chosen to point the chemical kinetics effects due to different residence times and equivalent ratios in turbulent combustion situations. The results obtained show important discrepancies between the four kinetic mechanisms for each chemical species. The study also uses the reaction rate to determine the most important reactions rates, which control each chemical species analysed.
