Abstract
The goal of this study is to estimate the attenuation coefficient related to a external heat source used in thermal ablation procedures. To achieve this, the classical bioheat equation and a laser source was considered to model the problem under investigation. Seeking simulated temperature measurements, the generalized integral transform technique is used to solve the direct problem and this solution is verified against others direct solution methodologies. The sensitivity of the parameters is examined and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method with the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm is used in the inverse analysis. The comparison between direct approach solutions shows an excellent agreement and the attenuation coefficient is accurately estimated.
