Abstract
In the last two decades, the Brazilian government has implemented measures that encourage the production and consumption of sustainable fuels, from oilseed vegetables, residual oils, and // or microalgae, acquiring biodiesel at the end of the production process. From this, understanding what the behavior of a motor generator with these new fuels will be, in mixture with diesel, is extremely important to identify the impacts generated on the equipment and on the environment, of this aspects such as performance, and emissions. The diesel engine used was an MWM D229 / 4, 4 stroke, and alternator WEG GTA 201 AIHV, with a capacity of 44KW / 55KVA. The generator set is a generator system that is used as an electricity generator for NPDEAS. It also produces hot gases that constitute the energy input for an absorption system to be used to produce cold for the complex (air conditioning of the building, and cooling of the culture medium to increase the absorption of CO2 by microalgae). The absorption system also generates heat, producing hot water for industrial consumption in the plant. To characterize the equipment, diesel fuel was first used, adding 11% biodiesel (B11), then 4 more diesel and biodiesel mixtures (B25, B50, B70 and B100), in three different electrical charges in the genset (4KW, 14KW and 24 KW) . The following parameters were measured: fuel consumption, ambient and exhaust manifold temperature, phase-to-phase (FF) and phase-to-neutral (FN) voltage, electric current, apparent and active power, engine rotation frequency, electric current frequency and emissions (CO, CO2, SO2, NOX, NO and NO2). The data showed that B11 fuel consumption was the lowest. Mechanical performance remained at an average of 0.91 for all fuels and cargo. With the 4KW load, the genset presented exceptionally low 1st and 2nd law efficiency values for all mixtures used, compared to the 14KW and 24KW values. Regarding Carnot's efficiency, the 24KW load obtained the best performance for all fuels. Regarding the 2nd law efficiency, the 12KW load obtained the best performance for all fuels. CO2, SO2 and NO emissions increased with increasing loads, while CO and NO2 emissions decreased with increasing loads, for all fuels. Highlight for the NO and SO2 values that were much higher in the B100 mixture.
