Optimization of Hydrofoil by Genetic Algorithm

Abstract
More evident local or global environmental problems increase the demand for renewable energy sources,such as ocean currents. In this paper, the shape of an oscillating hydrofoil is optimized to make the energy generatingdevice more efficient, increasing the lift coefficient and lift-to-drag ratio, and to preventing cavitation. Multi-objectiveoptimization is done through the agglutination technique and using a different application of the Genetic Algorithm (GA),where different percentages of the leading and trailing edges of a set of NACA profiles are combined for the crossoverphase. The proposed optimization method proved to be effective for the case of the lift coefficient.
