Abstract
Currently, there is growing concern about reducing the emission of carbon dioxide in the environment. The present work aims the technical analysis of a plant for the sequestration of carbon dioxide from the exhaust gases of a steelmaking process in order to convert it into methanol. This analysis uses the CAPE-OPEN software, which is a freeware for modeling thermochemical processes. The COFE flowsheet environment is used varying the operational parameters to obtain an optimum point. The results showed that the change in the percentage of conversion of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the reactor is not interesting in this study, since the change in the number of stages of the distillation column is attractive.
