THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF THE EXOTHERMIC REACTION OF THE PARTIAL OXIDATION OF METHANE IN A FLUIDIZED BED REFORMER: MATHEMATICAL MODELLING AND COMPUTER SIMULATION

Abstract
This work had driven the simulation of the exothermic reaction's temperature (ERT) of the partial oxidation of methane (POM) method in a thermochemical fluidized bed (TFB) reformer. A Non-isothermal Pseudo-Homogeneous mathematical (NIPHM) model has been developed to study the numerical simulation of the POM method inside TFB reformer using the finite volume method (FVM). The effect of some parameters such as the CH4/O2 ratio, average gas superficial velocity (Vs,avg) had been investigated. When the CH4/O2 ratio is low, the heat release on the POM method from TFB reformer is notably increased and therefore the ERT is favoured. On the other hand, a rise of the Vs,avg indicates a decrease on the ERT's profiles in TFB reformer and thus, a reduction in the heat release by the POM method.
