Abstract
The chemical recovery boiler is important in the pulp and paper industry for burning black liquor, recovering inorganic chemical compounds and producing steam for electricity generation and use in processes. For the analysis in the paper, operational data of the boiler that has a capacity of 180 ton/h of steam superheated to 400 °C and 50 bar and burns 1,400 tonnes of dry solids per day. The stoichiometric analysis done is from the burning of black liquor as biomass and chemical reactions for the formation of smelt and gases. The boiler exergetic analysis methodology is based fundamentally on the elementary composition of the black liquor. Generation of steam in the boiler has an efficiency of approximately 24.2%, is notable that the composition of black liquor and the percentage of dry solids are important in this analysis, in addition to varying from one industry to another, showing its impact in the process of recovering inorganic compounds and generating steam. Combustion gases, in the order of 6,360 ton/day, are released into the atmosphere at 200 °C, and the heat can still be used, with the CO2 flow in the order of 1,480 ton/day, generated from the combustion of biomass.
