Abstract
The quest for low ) energy buildings has brought the design acclimatization systems under special attention, since they can be accountable for as much as 70% of the overall energy consumption in tropical climates. At the same time, indoor air quality has been of increasing concern since the Legionnarie´s disease outbreak in 70´s, . In the 80´s, with the term sick-building syndrome was coined to generally refer to hazardous and unhealthy indoor environments. This concern has been reflected on the increasing air renewal rates required by construction codes and standards around the world. Although increased outside air volumes allow for pollutants dilution, it comes at a cost of increased cooling capacity. The present work addresses the performance of an hybrid desiccant cycle which allows for full air renovation, while keeping the same comfort conditions of a standard vapor compression cycle, under the same atmospheric conditions.
