Abstract
Gather the continuous increase of greenhouse emissions is the required effort of policies and government investments to fulfill agreements against climate change. One viable way is based on renewable energy sources, and despite it corresponds to about 14.00% of the global matrix this percentage should still increase in near future. Aiming in wind energy utilization - which plays an important role in it –, this paper is the first of a series concerning optimized turbines development. In this first approach, the main objective is to investigate turbine performance and replicate its operation, and then find the optimal design parameters for small wind turbines. Literature correlations were applied through algorithms to perform the optimization process. In comparison with an existing SWT, it would be possible to find a turbine 2.66% smaller and 5.53% more efficient on its pick.
