Abstract
An experimental study of acoustical similarity is performed in an axial fan with 10,97 meters of diameter designed to operate in Air Cooled Condensers (ACC) of power plants. The main goal is to obtain empirical parameters which are necessary to use in the acoustical similarity, and to study how they behave when fan blade angle or airflow are changed. The empirical parameters studied are the exponent of the Mach number term and an spectral function, both of which depend of the airflow rate and fan geometry. In order to make this possible, the experiments in a full-size test station are performed and we measure the airflow, static pressure, shaft power and sound pressure level (SPL) provided by the fan. The fan sound power level (PWL) is calculated using the fan SPL measurements and a reference sound source through the comparison method. In order to validate the acoustic similarity approach, the frequency spectra of PWL calculated using the rotational speed is compared with results of the experiment made at the same rotational speed value. A discussion about the influence of the fan operation conditions in these empirical parameters will be presented in the final version of paper.
