Abstract
The early detection of cancer when the tumor is relatively small is crucial for the success of treatment protocols. Today, the most widely used techniques for the image detection are magnetic resonance (MRI), computerized tomography (CT) scan, and x-ray (mammography). Temperature measurements taken with an infrared camera can also be used for tumor detection. This paper presents preliminary results towards the development of a method of using infrared temperature measurements for tumor detection in the thyroid. A protocol available in the literature was also modified in this work, in order to enhance the thermal contrast between the thyroid and the surrounding tissues and organs.
