Abstract
This work presents the development of a semi-analytical solution of the Giesekus constitutive equation that is compared to the numerical solution obtained with a Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) code where the governing equations are written in a vorticity-velocity formulation. The numerical simulation is applied to a two-dimensional viscoelastic fluid flow in a straight channel using a high-order compact finite difference scheme for the spatial derivatives discretization. The semi-analytical solution is used to study the minimal distance necessary to achieve the developed solution in the non-Newtonian flow. The results show the Reynolds and Weissenberg number influence to this minimal distance.
