Abstract
In the current Brazilian energy scenario, one of the energy sources that has been highlighting is the wind power. Nowadays, the installed capacity of this source is about 13 GW, predominating in the northeast and south area of the country. The Southeast area is the biggest load in the country, energetically speaking, and has an estimated generation potential of 29.7 GW, however does not contain a significant amount of installed wind farms, with only 3 sites under operation approved by ANEEL. In this context, this paper proposes the case study of the largest generating park in the southeast area, named Gargaú Wind Power Plant, located in São Francisco de Itabapoana, RJ, with an installed capacity of 28 MW, studying its arrangement, annual production, and suggesting the use of modern machines in the wind farm, since the wind farm uses imported wind turbines, discussing the economic viability of this change and the possible gains with the new configuration. The change of the wind turbines proved to be economically viable, mainly due to the increase of the energy produced by each new installed wind turbine.
