Abstract
The current work has the objective to study the autothermal methane reforming through a 2D pseudo heterogeneous model in a double membrane reactor with nickel catalyst. Mass and energy balances partial differential equations (EDP’s) were developed and after transformed in ordinary differential equations (EDO’S) through Coupled Integral Equations Approach (CIEA) method, allowing obtaining data about the temperatures profiles, CH4 conversion, H2 production. The graphs obtained showed the great influence of temperature, O2/CH4 ration, H2O/CH4 ratio, and pressure gradient between reaction and permeation zone in the membranes performances and in the process efficiency. The reactor was simulated with temperature of 837 K and pressures of 950 kPa in reaction zone and 150 kPa in permeation zone. The use of this fixed bed configuration leads to a energetically self-sufficient process and capable of separate the main product without need other support process or expensive devices, bringing financial and structural advantages to industry.
