Abstract
Unstable transverse rolls of a thin liquid film is carried out in this paper. The instability is triggered by surface tension gradients, instead of buoyancy effect. This mechanism is known as the Marangoni effect. The only inner heat source is viscous dissipation. The lower boundary is considered adiabatic and the upper film surface is subjected to convection. In order to investigate the linear instability of the physical system, the normal mode technique is employed. The steady flow can be determined analytically, but the unstable transverse rolls required numerical procedures to be solved. For this, Runge-Kutta and shooting method were combined to solve the system of equations derived.
