Abstract
The objective of this work is to carry out a technical-economic evaluation of the electricity generation using as fuel the biogas produced in landfills, and considering as a case of study the Sapucaí Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP), located in the city of Itajubá - MG. The use of this biogas would it release into the atmosphere, reducing serious environmental impacts. This study includes the evaluation and selection of the necessary equipment for the biogas energy utilization for electricity generation, the feasibility to carry out a cogeneration process to accelerate the drying of the sludge produced at the station, as well as an economic analysis. The proposed technology for electricity generation is a engine-generator set. It was proposed a construction of a gasometer (gas holder) aiming to avoid oscillations of the gas flow supplied to the internal combustion engine. and also a filter of hydrogen sulphide, in order to avoid the corrosion of the elements of the system in general. The equipment selected was efficient and the economic analysis brought a positive result for the generation of electric energy as the main product, leading to a return on investment of 8 years.
